Where can I get sprouting seeds?
One of the common questions that we are asked is where to get sprouting seeds for the Forages Sprout Jar Kit. Below is a review of a few of our favorite sources.
You can sprout a wide variety of plants from seeds, nuts, legumes, beans and grains. Whatever variety or mix you choose, always opt for high-quality seeds that are specifically cultivated for sprouting. We recommend organic, certified pathogen-free seeds. Never use seeds that are meant for planting in a garden as they are not typically prepared for consumption as a sprout.

True Leaf Market is an excellent supplier for sprouting seeds. They offer a wide variety of seeds in various sizes. Most of their seeds are organic and heirloom. Their pricing is good, however if ordering from Canada, the shipping cost can be high. From our experience, the freshness is excellent, and the germination rate is high. As a bonus, True Leaf Market also offers other seeds for flowers or vegetables, so you can stock up on your garden supplies at the same time.

Sproutman is a family run business with a history in sprouting going back to the 1970s. Their website is excellent and has resources and ideas for sprouts. All their seeds are organic. Their selection is primarily just the core sprouting favorites, however they have been adding more varieties and mixes lately. They tend to be a little bit more expensive but offer savings if you subscribe to a regular seed delivery.

SeedsNow sells a variety of sprouting seeds along with other gardening seeds. They offer certified organic, heirloom and non-GMO seeds in various different package sizes. Pricing is very good. US shipping seems easy enough, but be sure to check the details if shipping to Canada. The website can be a bit tricky to navigate, so the link provided sends you directly to the broccoli sprouts page. Or try searching for 'sprouts' to see the other varieties available.

iHerb sells a very broad range of healthy items. You can get everything from vitamins and supplements to beauty products and packaged food. Their focus is not on sprouting, however they do have a great Zesty Sprouting Mix, Mung Beans, and Broccoli Seeds under the Now Real Food brand. We purchased from the Canadian site and the products shipped within a day, but did come across the border, so it was about a week before we received them. We wish the seeds were organic, but otherwise they seem fresh and sprout well.
